On the bench

You are spent now
your years of youthful charisma
and man about town popularity
wearied by age and tan suits.

To go with the tan suit
you wear a garish red necktie
(who dressed you this morning?)
trying to collar the power
that your charm
once proffered.
Not grasping the
fashion of the day,
another symptom
of loss.

In your day you strutted
and women did a double take
then swooned
in discordant competition.
(At least you think they did)

Today you sit
melancholic on a bench
during corporate lunchtime
while sexy young things
walk past
no heads swivelling
except yours

ouch ouch ouch - musta waited a few years to finally see that eh? oh well better out than in as my am always said. Nothing personal but i had to write a reply....

So
The once proud lioness
who jumped through rings
and stood centrestage on the pedestal
at the carnival of earthly delights

who can no longer bear cubs
who displays her sagging vanities
who sharpens her long teeth
on the soft jellies of revenge
seen through the sleights of youth dimmed eyes

was shot

to put us all out of her misery.

Our misery.

By the way, I would love to know who you think I was referring to. The poem actually resulted from me seeing a middle aged guy eyeing up a young lady, and a totally unrelated flippant comment by a lady at work about someone she had known years ago. Poetic licence,it wasn't about anyone I know!

Well as I said.. nothing personal..I had no idea who it could have been about and I suspected poetic license at work. That said it had to come from within you... however i'm sure it is the kind of observation we would all like to make about some of the people we have seen in life! hence my end of Our misery (wasnt sure whether to just use her or our so put both lol) as it seems to me that with a certain amount of self reflection on this situation that we must see fault in ourselves for wishing this kind of end upon the smarmy who walk this planet...Is this schardenfreude??
